What is Hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy gives benefits to health, and therefore general well-being, by general relaxation from massage and/or specific treatment of particular body areas to alter conditions. It also tends to release endorphins - as do other activities such as exercise or acupuncture.

As we all know, we benefit in relaxation by a hot bath but that effect is bettered by the direction of jets of mixed water and air, to break up 'the film' of water that hugs the body. The water heat is thus transferred more effectively, with resultant benefit to muscles and nerves, helped also by the water buoyancy reducing the 'drag' of gravity. The result is that tissues are stretched, circulation is stimulated, and excess fluids are dispersed.

Hydrotherapy can be used to reinvigorate or relax - depending upon the water temperature and the volume of jet pressure used, as our user brochure explains. It is therapeutic in the treatment of muscle spasm, stiffness, cramp, and bruising. The link from bodily health to mental well-being - and in reverse- is well accepted by modern health providers. In short, Hydrotherapy has been shown to improve muscle tone, relieve tension - of physical or mental trauma - relieve pain, speed recovery time of muscle or ligament tears, sprains and strains, improve mobility of joints and muscles, help remove waste and aid resistance to coughs/colds and other infections by strengthening the immune system and lowering blood pressure. Hydrotherapy helps restore the body's natural equilibrium and marvellous ability to heal itself. That said, nobody being treated medically for a chronic or acute condition should undertake it without first consulting their medical adviser.
