Nirvana Deep Soaking Tub (‘armchair’ style)

The Nirvana deep soaking bath tub is our best-selling bath worldwide. Hand-crafted in Britain, it was developed as a result of detailed consultations with previous Imersa customers and with prospective seekers of the perfect deep soaking bath.

Key to its popularity is the comfort  afforded by its sculptured interior – the result of  two  years of research and design development – its quality craftsmanship and its exceptional versatility. It can be set into a corner or niche, installed free-standing with bespoke panels, or set into a wooden, stone or tiled surround. Its simple and compact dimensions make it compatible with all kinds of decorative surrounds so it can be made to suit décors of all kinds, from traditional to contemporary. It is also particularly well suited for the inclusion of a hydrotherapy system.

Description

The Nirvana Deep Soaking Tub – ‘Armchair’ Style

Designed to optimise both bathing comfort and pleasure, the Nirvana features a sloping curved back, which is sculpted both horizontally and vertically. One early client described the sensation of bathing in the Nirvana as being “like sitting in a comfortably supportive armchair.” An overhead view of the bath’s interior provides a sense of the ergonomic design – the raised seat and the armrests pictured on each side of the bowl, and the angled footrests set lower down in the bowl. These are ribbed so, in addition to allowing the feet to lie at a naturally relaxed angle, they can also be used to stimulate the soles of the feet in accordance with principles of massage and reflexology.

The sculptured seat and back enable the bather to slide up or down – and sideways – to ensure the best personal soaking depth. In our own experience we know of bathers of heights varying from 137cm / 4’ 6” to 201cm / 6’ 7” who have used the Nirvana and found it to be outstandingly comfortable. The bowl is amazingly roomy, and the integral arm and foot rests make relaxation complete.

With its launch, the Nirvana deep soaking bath tub set a new trend in bathing and since that time, it has been much copied but never matched.

Use and Placement:

The Nirvana deep soaking bath can be installed in a variety of ways, as the above images show. The height of the Nirvana makes a low step a useful aid to entry and exit. A step is often incorporated into the surround, sometimes tiled and sometimes removable so it can be taken away when not in use.

Another alternative is to sink the Nirvana partially or fully into a deck, thereby rendering a step unnecessary.

It is suitable for use with a bath-screen or shower screen.

Access and fitting:

When turned on its side and prior to the fitting of any taps/faucets, the Nirvana will pass through a standard door, assuming a minimum width of 730mm / 29″.

Taps/faucets may be fitted wherever space and good plumbing practices permit. The bath requires an extended waste / overflow. This means that the cable that operates the waste plug needs to be longer than in conventional baths. The overflow can be located in any one of the walls other than the backrest. Unless otherwise requested, the Nirvana will be supplied with the waste and overflow holes ready-drilled in the requested location. Holes are not pre-drilled for taps, hand-showers or grab bars. This enables decisions to be made on-site when both the customer and the fitter have the benefit of being able to view the bath in its desired location.

The Nirvana is sufficiently robust to permit the fixing of grab bars, which some customers find helpful as an aid to entering and existing the bath. Cabuchon does not normally pre-fit grab bars because experience shows that the precise placement is best decided after trial and discussion, when the customer has been able to see the bath in situ. Shape, gauge, length and method of use are all personal to each owner. Grab bars are therefore supplied loose unless the customer specifically requests otherwise.

The Nirvana is built around a strong steel chassis, which has four screw-threaded feet that allow for easy on-site height adjustment. The adjustment range is between 885mm/35″ maximum and 820mm/32¼” minimum. These feet are factory-fitted and set to spread the bath’s weight evenly. During installation on-site, great care must be taken if the feet are subsequently adjusted to accommodate a sloping or uneven floor. For security, stability and durability, it is essential that the whole of the bath’s weight rests squarely and evenly on the feet. No weight at all should rest on the rim or body of the bath, nor (where present) on any side panel.

Panels and colour choice:

Panels:

Like all of Cabuchon’s deep soaking tubs, the Nirvana can also be installed in the centre of a bathroom as a free-standing bath. In such cases, customers can choose and fit their own surrounds – e.g. stone or wooden panelling – but, on request, we can produce bespoke panels, which will be supplied separately from the bath. Regardless of the number of sides a panel is to cover, it will be supplied as a single, robust piece.

A panel can be supplied to cover anything from one to four sides, depending on the intended installation:

  • One side: for installation as a niche/alcove bath
  • Two sides: when the Nirvana is to be used as a corner bath
  • Three sides: for installation part way along a wall
  • Four sides: when the Nirvana is to be used free standing

More information about panel choices, illustrations, and details of what and how to order, can be found on our main Deep Soaking Tubs page.

Colour choice:

The use of FICORE® means customers can have their Nirvana deep soaking tub supplied in literally any colour – e.g. to match other sanitaryware or a specific material or item of decor. For a small extra charge, colour combinations are also possible. The bath may also be supplied in a non-standard matt finish, or primed in readiness for a specialist paint finish.

More information about colour choice can be found on our Bath Options page.

“We are thrilled with the design and our wonderful tub! We are very proud of it. We are thrilled with our master en suite bathroom now that it’s finished. Finding the soaking tub was the finishing touch, because nothing like it was available in Australia. As we are older, we wanted comfort and something easy to get in and out of. This tub is perfect! And so relaxing! We love it!”

“We are so pleased with everything. We absolutely love our Nirvana Deep Soaking Bath, it’s fantastic! The shape of the bath makes the experience so relaxing and we now enjoy long, luxurious baths. It doesn’t take any longer to fill and the water remains hot for a surprisingly long time. Our family (some have already had a soak) and friends are all extremely impressed and our installer even took some pictures. Finally, the quality is excellent. Cabuchon have been a pleasure to deal with and we would most certainly recommend them (and the bath, of course!)”

“I bought one of your Japanese soaking tubs – in fact, it was the very first thing I bought for a house I hadn’t even started renovating at the time! We think it looks stunning. My husband has fallen  in love with the bath (all 6’ 4” ) and I’m struggling to get a look in at the moment…

“The Nirvana tub has been a big hit in our family. With its unique shape and the ability to almost fully immerse the body, it really is like sitting in a warm, cozy arm chair. When sunken to bench height, the tub is easy to get into and out of. Overall, much better than a traditional spa tub! The service we received from the Cabuchon staff was impeccable, and we imported the tub into Canada without a hitch. We would highly recommend the company and its products to any discerning customer looking for a truly unique bath.”

Ms R. Ontario, Canada.

“Success! I was finally able to use your tub. It was fabulous. I love the hydro-jet therapy. The tub holds heat really well and it is nice and deep. I can tell it is going to be very good for my back. I wish I had owned it for years past. I have been wanting to send you great pictures of your tub, so that you can see how beautiful it looks over here in America. I soak in it 3 to 4  times  a week, many  times with Epsom salts, and it has provided enormous relief for my back. The other aspect is that I have been taking showers for 40 years, and it is hard to believe that I have been forgoing the luxury of tub baths for so long! All my neighbors and relatives are just in awe when they see the tub. Thank you for your persistence in helping me with the tub.”

Mrs J.C. North Carolina USA.

“This is certainly an investment and well worth the money. The difference in my joints has been great as I haven’t been able to get into or out of a bath in years! My physio is impressed too! I love the bath and it is really helping my hip and knee pain. Customer service has also been great through the process.”

“First of all, I want to tell you how delighted we are with our new Cabuchon Japanese bath. We are so pleased with it – the look, the finish and the solid construction and just the relaxation while we sit and soak. Fantastic. Also I would like to thank you and members of your team who have been so helpful and supportive.”

“We are so glad we went for the Nirvana. As a tall person, it is hard to find a bath that won’t have your knees or shoulders sticking out. As a family, we also like the fact it retains the water’s heat. I like to soak for quite a long time and, normally, I would have to turn the hot tap back on quite a few times. I haven’t done that with this tub yet.”

Ms A.P. & Family, Lancashire, England.

“I have loved working with Cabuchon. I also love this tub. The chair design of the Nirvana makes getting in and out so much easier, and soaking in it is so comfortable. I decided I liked the look of a stand-alone tub, and Cabuchon gave me hints on installation that really helped. Thank you again for all your help and the wonderful tub.”

“Jane loves a bath and one day wistfully said she wished we could have a Japanese soaking tub. We were really taken by the Nirvana tub. It is the first bath I have ever been comfortable enough to fall asleep in, and Jane is absolutely delighted as she can soak up to her shoulders, and the heat retention is absolutely fabulous.”

“We purchased the Nirvana deep soaking tub with hydrotherapy jets. It is a very impressive bath tub; clearly very well made and perfect for the limited bathroom space we have.
