Project Description
Deep Soaking Tub, Maryland USA
Product: Takara Deep Soaking Tub
Client: Ms S O
The Project:
When Ms S O began to consider options for a small bathroom in Maryland, USA, she recognised that the alcove would demand a bath with very compact dimensions. Whatever bath tub she chose would have to fit lengthwise across the end wall because other layouts risked making the room feel cramped or difficult to navigate.
However, Ms S O did not want to make any compromise on comfort. She enjoyed regular baths, often using Epsom salts for added relaxation, so she approached the project with two additional requirements. First, it must be comfortable and supportive, and second, it would have to be made of a material that would not degrade when exposed to the salts (magnesium sulphate.)
Her investigations took her to the Cabuchon website, where she discovered a range of deep soaking tubs. She was particularly attracted to the Takara, which has an integrated seat, armrests and footrests, together with grab bars for easy access and security.
Like all of the company’s Japanese-style soaking tubs, the Takara is very compact. With external dimensions of 1372mm x 860mm (54” x 33¾”) it would fit easily within the space available.
She contacted the customer support team to ask about its chemical resistance and discovered that Ficore, the material from which it is made, will tolerate exposure to Epsom salts and a host of other chemicals without degrading. It also retains water heat very efficiently, it is not liable to chip, and it can be supplied in any colour or combination of colours.
Her next questions concerned the installation itself. The Takara may be installed in numerous ways, including free-standing but, in this case, she wanted it to be undermounted beneath attractive speckled wall panels. To support such an installation, we agreed to supply the bath with an upstand tiling flange on three of the sides. This would allow the bath to be fitted seamlessly and securely into the room. When the Takara was duly supplied, its front face was panelled in using the same material for a matching finish.
“Working with Cabuchon Bathforms to purchase the Takara was fantastic. From answering questions, providing options and information, as well as the name of a reputable agent to help us get the tub through customs, they were great. Turns out ordering a tub from overseas was the easy part of our bathroom renovation!
“You all were wonderful, and we are thrilled with the end result.”
